Oddly enough, The Onion and the Babylon Bee sometime provide the most cogent analysis in media. Ain't that a comment on society. I also miss the old Jon Stewart. Comedians are sometime have the best view of the zeitgeist.

Sure, I’m just astonished that a serious paper would put that in. It’s entirely content-free, which was the point originally I suppose.

Yes, it was a joke. This a was a block quote at the top of the chapter, and the TLDR point of the chapter was that race research really doesn't get anywhere anymore because they are just looking at whatever is the easiest to look at (based on grant funds available, accessible statistics, etc.), and not even trying to find out what is actually driving the results.
