This a was a block quote at the top of the chapter, and the TLDR point of the chapter was that race research really doesn't get anywhere anymore because they are just looking at whatever is the easiest to look at (based on grant funds available, accessible statistics, etc.), and not even trying to find out what is actually driving the results.
