Year End Update
Just a very brief update, and a word of thanks to the new subscribers from last week’s post. I even got my first pledge from somebody who said they would subscribe for money if I decide to start charging.
For now I’m not going to start taking money because my personal situation is such that I can’t promise to post regularly. Day job plus managing transitions for an aged parent. Might change in another year or so. If/when I get to the point where I can post on a regular schedule and people can evaluate the value proposition more fairly, then I’ll consider turning on paid subscriptions.
Meanwhile I’ll just keep posting when I can to build up a back catalog. Posts that I think will be of interest to Naked Capitalism may be cross-posted or linked there, but some things will not. I didn’t think anyone would be much interested in my lukewarm political takes, so I hadn’t submitted several political posts prior to last week.
By the way, if anyone knows of a resource to help find local IT companies who support alternatives to Microsoft and other standard business software, please message me or post a comment. A malicious involuntary Microsoft update earlier today cemented my resolve to be off Microsoft before this time next year. I’m open to Linux, but I’m not able to act on advice such as “it’s easy, just get an old computer and plug in whatever whatever whatever.” I’m reasonably computer literate when I try, so I’ll probably do something like that when I retire. For now I’m a lawyer and the ethics opinions are pretty clear that it’s basically malpractice to have a computer-based law office without professional IT support. Whatever I do, I need to be able to pay somebody for shared responsibility to make sure it works and is not measurably worse than Microsoft about pirating my client data. So what I need is a way to find that person or organization, not a DIY manual.
Thanks for listening!
